Busari Urges NFF to Prioritise Flamingos' World Cup Preparations

Head Coach of Nigeria's U-17 Women's National Team, the Flamingos, Akeem Busari, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide the team with adequate support ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco.

Busari made the appeal while addressing members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State chapter, on Saturday in Ilorin.

The former Pacesetter Queens coach stressed that early and well-planned preparations, particularly through quality international friendly matches, would be vital to the Flamingos' chances of making a strong impact at the global tournament.

According to him, the friendly matches will give the technical crew the opportunity to assess the squad, identify areas that require improvement, and fine-tune the team before the competition begins.

He also urged the NFF to sustain its support for the Flamingos before, during, and after the World Cup, expressing confidence that the team would enjoy divine guidance throughout its campaign.

Busari, who was appointed head coach of the Flamingos by the NFF in April 2026, successfully guided the team through the qualification series for the tournament.

Nigeria secured its place at the World Cup by defeating the Benin Republic 8-5 on aggregate, following a 3-2 home victory and a 5-3 away win in Lomé.

The Flamingos have been drawn in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico, and Poland for the tournament.

The 10th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026.
