Burnley secures signing of Super Eagles-eligible winger
Posted : 27 July 2023
Premier League newcomers Burnley have officially welcomed Luca Koleosho to their squad, securing his signing from Espanyol for an undisclosed fee.
The versatile winger has the unique eligibility to represent four different national teams: the United States (his birth country), Nigeria (through his father), Italy, and Canada (through his mother).
While he has received international call-ups for all these countries at various youth or senior levels, it appears that the Italian Football Federation is currently in a favorable position to secure his services due to provisional cap-ties.
Koleosho's association with Italy was evident during the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he was part of the Gli Azzurrini squad that claimed the championship title, featuring prominently in all their matches, including the final against Portugal.
The 18-year-old talent has signed a promising four-year contract with Burnley, committing to the club until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
Having spent seven years at Espanyol, he successfully progressed through their youth ranks to earn appearances in five La Liga matches and also featured in the Copa del Rey.
Regarded as one for the future, Koleosho's unique background as an Italian-Nigerian-American-Canadian player makes him an exciting addition to Burnley's squad.
He becomes the club's sixth signing during the summer transfer window, and his versatility and potential promise a bright future for both player and club.
