Burnley and Southampton talk about signing a permanent contract with the Nigerian born in Arsenal

Posted : 20 April 2023
Burnley, who will compete in the Premier League, wants to keep Nathan Tella as a player for the coming season.

The former member of the Arsenal development squad moved from Southampton to the Clarets last summer in pursuit of the regular first team action that the Saints were unable to provide due to the additions of Joe Aribo, Sam Edozie, and Sékou Mara to strengthen the attack.

Tella scored 17 goals and provided 5 assists in 38 Championship games, playing a significant part in Burnley's promotion to the Premier League.

Tella's efforts have pleased Burnley, and they want him to remain with the team after this season.

Burnley have begun conversations with Southampton about making his loan contract permanent, according to Football Insider, but those talks are just getting started because the Saints are fighting to stay up.

According to the report, Burnley will have to entice him away from Southampton with a sizable offer.

The future of the Stevenage-born Tella, who has played 41 times for Southampton's first team and contributed to seven goals (2 goals, 5 assists), is still up in the air.

After signing a new contract in January 2022, Tella's agreement at Southampton has about two years left to go.
