Bruno Fernandes Backs Ronaldo’s Dream of World Cup Glory in 2026

Posted : 25 April 2026

Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes has expressed his desire to help legendary teammate Cristiano Ronaldo achieve the ultimate farewell by winning the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking in an interview referenced by the BBC, Fernandes said ending Ronaldo’s international career with a World Cup triumph would be an extraordinary achievement for both the player and the nation.

Ronaldo, now 41, is expected to feature in a record sixth World Cup appearance next year, which many believe will be the final major tournament of his illustrious career.

Despite never lifting the trophy, he remains international football’s all-time leading scorer with 143 goals and has already secured major honours, including Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles with Portugal.

Fernandes highlighted Ronaldo’s global impact on football, stressing that a World Cup victory would be a fitting tribute to his legacy.

The midfielder, who also captains Manchester United, emphasized that such success would carry meaning not only for Portugal but for the sport as a whole.

The 2026 tournament, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, will see Portugal begin their Group K campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston on June 17, followed by matches against Uzbekistan on June 23 and Colombia on June 27 in Miami.
