Brighton secures record home streak with 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest

Posted : 10 March 2024

Brighton & Hove Albion secured a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, extending their unbeaten home streak to a club-record 12 matches. The lone goal came in the 29th minute when Brighton's dominance in possession paid off, and defender Andrew Omobamidele inadvertently scored an own goal after a free-kick.

The win propelled Brighton to eighth place in the Premier League standings with 42 points from 28 matches, while Forest remained in 17th place, three points above the relegation zone with 10 games remaining.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed confidence in his players, emphasizing the importance of the three points after three consecutive defeats. De Zerbi praised the resilience of his team, highlighting their ability to maintain their position in the table despite facing numerous challenges throughout the season.

The manager acknowledged the players' high level of human qualities and their determination to achieve further success in the remaining fixtures.

Despite holding 64% possession in the first half, Brighton had entered the game on the back of three defeats, including a 4-0 loss to AS Roma in the Europa League.

Forest, struggling in the relegation battle, attempted to respond immediately after conceding, with Divock Origi's shot saved by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Although Forest continued to threaten Brighton's lead in the second half, they were unable to find the equalizer.

In the 67th minute, Brighton's Jakub Moder escaped a potential red card after a foul on Neco Williams, prompting frustration from Forest. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo criticized the officiating, claiming that such mistakes were occurring consistently and affecting the team's results.

Despite the disappointment, Forest remains focused on their upcoming match against Luton Town, while Brighton prepares to host Roma in the Europa League round of 16 second leg on March 14.
