Brighton Boss Fabian Hurzeler Assesses Key Attributes Of New Signing Zadok Yohanna

Posted : 08 June 2026

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler has shared his technical assessments regarding the arrival of Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna. The English Premier League side officially completed the high-profile acquisition of the 18-year-old forward on a five-year contract running until June 2031.

The Seagulls successfully secured the highly sought-after youngster ahead of fierce competition from major European clubs. Rivals including Newcastle United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid were tracking the teenage prodigy. The transfer fee reached a reported €30 million total package; this valuation establishes the attacker as the most expensive player sale in the history of Swedish football.

Yohanna enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign in Scandinavia after moving abroad from the Kaduna-based Ikon Allah Academy. The left-footed winger operating on the right flank recorded five goals and four assists during his recent first-team appearances for AIK Stockholm. His rapid progression also earned him a maiden senior international call-up to the Super Eagles squad under national team manager Éric Chelle.

Following the completion of the transfer, Hürzeler spoke warmly about the club's new addition. The former FC St. Pauli manager noted that the Nigerian teenager possesses specific creative dimensions that will greatly entertain the local fan base at the Amex Stadium. However, the German tactician called for realistic patience as the young attacker adapts to the physical demands of English football.

Hürzeler explained that he is thoroughly looking forward to working directly with the talented teenager on the training ground. The manager highlighted Yohanna's quick acceleration and fine dribbling skills as key attributes that will allow him to impact games positively within the attacking third of the pitch.

The explosive winger will become the sixth Nigerian professional player to represent Brighton in club history. Yohanna will link up with his new teammates next month for pre-season training ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign. The south-coast club will also participate in the UEFA Conference League this season.
