Brentford’s Kayode makes PL TOTW with Chelsea, Man Utd stars

Posted : 07 May 2025

Brentford’s right-back, Michael Kayode, has earned a spot in Whoscored.com’s Premier League Team of the Week following a stellar performance in Brentford's 4-3 victory over Manchester United last weekend. This recognition comes after his impressive display during just his third Premier League start.

In the thrilling encounter, Kayode contributed to his team’s success by providing his first-ever Premier League assist. He set up Yoane Wissa’s fourth goal, a key moment in the Bees’ dramatic win over the Red Devils.

Kayode wasn't the only Brentford player to make the cut, with German international Kevin Schade, also of Nigerian descent, joining him in the Team of the Week. Schade’s contributions were equally noteworthy in the team's performance.

Leicester City made the biggest impact on the Team of the Week, with three players making the list: goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, fullback Luke Thomas, and forward Jordan Ayew. Their strong showings helped Leicester dominate the selection.

Chelsea was also represented with two players, midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, while Manchester United had Alejandro Garnacho included. These players were standout performers in the Premier League over the past weekend.

Completing the lineup were Murillo from Nottingham Forest, Josko Gvardiol from Manchester City, and Yankuba Minteh from Brighton, each making significant contributions in their respective matches.

Kayode's overall performance was exceptional, earning him a WhoScored rating of 8.20. In addition to his assist, he completed five dribbles, three clearances, two tackles, and two interceptions, showcasing his all-around ability in both defense and attack. The Italian-Nigerian joined Brentford from Fiorentina during the winter transfer window, and the club holds the option to make his move permanent at the season’s end.
