Brazil secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay, giving new manager Carlo Ancelotti his first win in charge. Vinicius Jr scored the decisive goal in the second half, capitalizing on creative build-up play from Matheus Cunha, who is set to join Manchester United. The win follows a goalless draw with Ecuador in Ancelotti’s debut, ensuring Brazil's unbroken streak of appearances at every World Cup.

 

Speaking after the match, Vinicius Jr acknowledged that while the team’s performance wasn’t their most convincing, the result was all that mattered. He emphasized the relief of securing qualification early, which will allow Ancelotti more time to develop the squad. The forward described the victory as a moment to celebrate and a stepping stone toward building cohesion under their new coach.

 

Elsewhere in South American qualifiers, reigning world champions Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw by Colombia in Buenos Aires. Luis Diaz opened the scoring for the visitors with a stunning solo effort, but Argentina, reduced to ten men after Enzo Fernandez's red card, salvaged a point thanks to a late goal from Thiago Almada. Meanwhile, Ecuador also clinched their World Cup berth following a 0-0 stalemate with Peru.
