Brazil Cruise Past Panama in Six-Goal World Cup Warm-Up Victory

Posted : 01 June 2026

Brazil delivered an emphatic performance on Sunday, defeating Panama 6-2 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro as they wrapped up preparations for the upcoming World Cup. The Selecao entertained their home supporters with a dominant attacking display, showcasing the depth and quality within Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

The hosts needed less than a minute to take control of the match. Vinicius Jr opened the scoring after linking up with Casemiro, receiving a pass from the experienced midfielder before unleashing a powerful strike from long range that left Panama goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera with no chance.

Panama responded unexpectedly in the 14th minute. A free-kick from Michael Murillo took a significant deflection off Matheus Cunha, wrong-footing goalkeeper Alisson and finding the back of the net to level the score. Despite the setback, Brazil quickly regained their composure and restored their lead before halftime.

The second goal again involved Vinicius and Casemiro. The Real Madrid forward created space inside the penalty area and sent a dangerous effort toward goal, with Casemiro getting the slightest touch to redirect the ball past Mosquera and put Brazil ahead heading into the break.

Ancelotti made sweeping changes at halftime, retaining only defender Leo Pereira from the starting lineup. The alterations had little impact on Brazil’s momentum, as the fresh players immediately took control of the contest.

Young forward Rayan extended Brazil’s lead in the 53rd minute after capitalizing on a misplaced pass from Mosquera. The Bournemouth teenager calmly curled his effort into the net, drawing loud cheers from the Maracana crowd. Seven minutes later, Lucas Paqueta added a fourth goal with a composed finish from outside the area.

Brazil continued to pile on the pressure, and Igor Thiago made it 5-1 from the penalty spot after being fouled by Mosquera inside the box. The relentless attack persisted into the closing stages, with Botafogo midfielder Danilo scoring the sixth goal in the 81st minute. He expertly controlled Paqueta’s lofted pass before finishing confidently beyond the Panama defense.

Panama managed a late consolation through Carlos Harvey, who struck a spectacular long-range effort from around 30 yards to reduce the deficit. However, the goal did little to diminish Brazil’s commanding display.

The victory provides Brazil with a major confidence boost ahead of their final World Cup preparation match against Egypt in Cleveland, Ohio, next weekend. The five-time world champions will then begin their Group C campaign against Morocco on June 13, with additional first-round fixtures against Haiti and Scotland to follow.
