Borussia Dortmund Signs England U21 Midfielder Jobe Bellingham on Record Deal

Posted : 10 June 2025

Borussia Dortmund confirmed the signing of England U21 midfielder Jobe Bellingham on Tuesday, the final day of the Club World Cup transfer window. The 19-year-old committed to a five-year contract with the eight-time German champions, with Dortmund reportedly paying a transfer fee of around 33 million euros plus an additional five million euros in bonuses.

This fee marks the highest upfront payment Dortmund has made for a player, narrowly missing their overall transfer record set by Ousmane Dembele’s deal in 2018. Jobe expressed excitement about joining the club and competing for trophies while donning the iconic black and yellow jersey.

Jobe Bellingham follows closely in the footsteps of his older brother Jude, who also moved to Dortmund from England’s Championship before making a big name at the Bundesliga side and eventually Real Madrid. At Dortmund, Jobe will distinguish himself by wearing “Jobe” on his jersey, similar to his brother’s approach at Sunderland.

He impressed last season with Sunderland by contributing four goals and three assists in 40 appearances, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League. Dortmund’s Managing Director for Sport, Lars Ricken, praised Jobe’s maturity and professionalism, emphasizing his potential to thrive under the club’s philosophy of nurturing young talent.

The younger Bellingham’s arrival sets up a potential sibling showdown, as Jude currently stars for Real Madrid, who might face Dortmund in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. Dortmund finished the 2024-25 season strongly, securing fourth place in the Bundesliga and a spot in next season’s Champions League.

They will begin their Club World Cup journey against Fluminense on June 17, with Jobe ready to make his debut on a big stage alongside his new teammates. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl expressed confidence in Jobe’s determination to carve out his own legacy at the club.
