Borussia Dortmund Confident of Signing Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland

Posted : 03 June 2025

Borussia Dortmund are optimistic about signing Sunderland’s rising star Jobe Bellingham. The 19-year-old midfielder has attracted significant attention from top clubs across Europe, especially after playing a crucial role in Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League. Dortmund, however, are confident they have the upper hand and are poised to secure his signature, believing that Bellingham is eager to emulate his older brother Jude, who previously made a name for himself at the German club.

Although formal discussions with Sunderland have yet to begin, Dortmund have reportedly received encouraging signals from Bellingham’s camp. Their hopes of sealing the deal have also been bolstered by a remarkable turnaround in their Bundesliga campaign. The club was sitting in 11th place with just eight matches remaining but surged to a fourth-place finish by winning seven and drawing one – a draw away at champions Bayern Munich – thus ensuring Champions League football next season.

Jobe Bellingham's development has mirrored that of his brother in several ways. Last month, he was named the Championship’s Young Player of the Year, five years after Jude received the same honor. He was also selected in the Championship Team of the Season and capped his breakout year by helping Sunderland win the playoff final against Sheffield United. If a deal is finalized before 10 June, Jobe could even be eligible to represent Dortmund in the upcoming Club World Cup, where his brother's current club Real Madrid will also participate.

The younger Bellingham is currently part of England's Under-21 squad for the European Championship in Slovakia. Manager Lee Carsley has expressed a willingness to accommodate players with pending transfers or Club World Cup duties, stating that the team is prepared to be flexible in support of their career opportunities. While Carsley hopes to retain a strong squad, he acknowledged that player priorities and FIFA regulations will take precedence in such cases.
