2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 21: Boboye’s Tactical Mastery Sees Bendel Insurance Edge El-Kanemi Warriors

Posted : 19 January 2026

El-Kanemi Warriors FC, the Desert Warriors, mounted a brave fight but narrowly lost 3–2 to Bendel Insurance FC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Matchday 21 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The victory highlighted Kennedy Boboye’s tactical brilliance, as his side remained unbeaten in their last six league encounters.

El-Kanemi Warriors started brightly, taking the initiative from the opening minutes. Their early pressure paid off when Daddy Abdulrahman displayed individual brilliance, dribbling past Insurance defenders before finishing neatly to give the Zulum Boys the deserved lead.

Bendel Insurance responded with sustained pressure, seeking an equaliser. Their persistence was rewarded in the 37th minute when they scored to level the match at 1–1, closing out a highly competitive first half.

The second half saw El-Kanemi Warriors continue to play with composure and confidence. However, Bendel Insurance struck first after the restart, with Henry Oyian rising highest to nod home a header in the 53rd minute, giving the hosts a 2–1 advantage.

El-Kanemi pressed for an equaliser, but their efforts were punished in the 63rd minute when Kayode extended Bendel Insurance’s lead to 3–1.

Both teams made tactical adjustments as the game progressed. El-Kanemi Warriors introduced new signings, including goalkeeper Suleiman Hussain, who replaced Emmanuel Nwabufor, and striker Musa, a mid-season acquisition from Sokoto United. The changes paid dividends late as Musa scored in the 87th minute, reducing the deficit to 3–2 and setting up a tense finish.

Despite five minutes of added time, El-Kanemi Warriors could not find the equaliser, and Bendel Insurance secured the victory.

After the match, El-Kanemi Warriors Head Coach Kabiru Dogo praised his team’s effort, noting that a few avoidable mistakes contributed to the defeat. He expressed confidence that the errors would be corrected in future games and thanked the fans for their unwavering support.
