Blackpool FC has officially released their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season, as confirmed on their website. The club made decisions on several players, including three Nigerian footballers, as they prepare for the next campaign.
One of the most notable departures is midfielder Josh Onomah, a product of Tottenham Hotspur's academy. Onomah’s contract with Blackpool expires on June 30, 2025, meaning he will leave the club at the end of the season.
During his time at Blackpool, Onomah made 18 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing an assist. His previous career has included stints at several top English clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham, and Preston North End.
At Tottenham, Onomah made 32 first-team appearances, including 13 in the Premier League, before moving on to play for Blackpool. His departure marks the end of a chapter at the Seasiders, who now look to the future.
In addition to Onomah’s departure, Blackpool has confirmed the return of Nigerian defender Odeluga Offiah to his parent club, Brighton & Hove Albion. Offiah, who had been loaned to Blackpool, has been with the Seagulls since 2017 and made ten senior appearances for them.
Offiah had a strong presence for Blackpool in the 2024-2025 season, starting 40 of the team’s 46 league matches in the English third tier. However, with his return to Brighton, Blackpool will now look for alternatives in defense.
Lastly, 18-year-old Johnson Opawole, a centre-back, has been offered a professional contract by Blackpool. Opawole, who has not yet made his first-team debut, is expected to join the team for pre-season training if terms are agreed upon.
