Liverpool has finalized their squad for the first half of the 2024-2025 season following the summer transfer window, and the list includes five young players of Nigerian heritage.
These players, aged 16 to 18, do not count towards the 25-man squad limit due to their U21 status, allowing Liverpool to include them without restrictions. Emmanuel Airoboma (17), Louis Enahoro-Marcus (18), Lucky Omoruyi (18), Rio Ngumoha (16), and Folami Onanuga (18) are all part of this roster, as they were born on or after January 1, 2003.
This month, Liverpool completed the signing of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea after a thorough five-step review process, which is necessary before any academy player can join the club.
Although Ngumoha will begin his tenure with Liverpool's U18s, he trained with the first team during the international break and also participated with the development squad.
To date, none of the Nigerian-descended players have featured in a Premier League matchday squad. Onanuga and Omoruyi secured their first professional contracts last season, while Enahoro-Marcus and Airoboma are in their second year as scholars.
All five players have appeared in the U18 Premier League for Liverpool, showing their potential and readiness for future opportunities.
These young talents are set to follow in the footsteps of former academy players like Jordon Ibe, Sheyi Ojo, and Ovie Ejaria, who progressed from the youth ranks to make significant contributions to Liverpool's Premier League campaigns.
