Bendel Insurance FC of Benin City claimed their first three points of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after Emmanuel Israel struck in the 93rd minute to seal a dramatic 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes.
The Match Day 4 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium was tightly contested, with Bendel Insurance wasting several clear-cut chances in both halves. Despite the pressure, the visitors—known as the Ikon Allah Boys—stood firm in defence and looked set to leave Benin City with a point until Israel’s decisive late finish sent the home fans into jubilation.
The result marked Bendel Insurance’s first win of the campaign, having previously drawn 1-1 with long-time rivals Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan in Match Day 2.
Speaking after the match, Bendel Insurance Head Coach Greg Ikhenoba praised his players’ resilience and expressed confidence that the breakthrough would come.
“I knew something would happen because we pressed well throughout the game. My players gave their best, but we must also recognize that Niger Tornadoes had their own game plan,” Ikhenoba said.
With the victory, Bendel Insurance move up to 10th place on the NPFL table with five points, while Niger Tornadoes are left still searching for form after a frustrating defeat.
