Bendel Insurance have renewed their push for a strong Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign after an emphatic 4–1 victory over Barau FC in Matchday 7, with club chairman Emperor Jarrett Tenebe declaring that the Benin Arsenals are capable of challenging for the title.
The Benin-based side returned to winning ways in impressive fashion at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, ending Barau FC’s unbeaten run in the process.
Tenebe, who spoke to sports journalists after the encounter, praised the players and coaching crew for producing what he described as a dominant performance against the Kano-based visitors.
The Insurance chairman said the result demonstrated the quality within the squad and reinforced the club’s ambition to compete at the top end of the league.
“Our opponents only managed to score one goal as a result of the penalty awarded against us. We have proven to the world that Insurance is a solid team, and we are serious contenders in the league,” Tenebe said.
He described the victory as only the beginning of what he expects to be a successful campaign, insisting that the team has the personnel required to challenge for the NPFL title.
“This is just the beginning. We are going to be getting good results because we have quality players who are good enough to win the league title for us,” he said.
Tenebe also commended the Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and the club’s coaching crew for their contribution to the development of the team.
He said the next major challenge for the Benin Arsenals would be to translate their impressive home form into victories on the road.
“The next thing now is for us to start winning away matches. We are going to Lagos next to face Sporting Lagos, and we are getting results in the next two away matches,” Tenebe said.
The club chairman expressed confidence that Insurance can compete against any team in the NPFL, while urging officials to maintain a fair standard of officiating throughout the season.
“The Insurance team you saw just now, do you see them as a team anybody can stop? We are only praying for fair officiating, like we have had so far this season. We pray it continues, then we can do it,” he said.
The victory lifted Bendel Insurance to 12 points and fifth position on the NPFL table, giving the Benin Arsenals renewed momentum after seven matches.
Coach Boboye and his players will now turn their attention to Matchday 8, when they travel to Lagos to face Sporting Lagos.
The fixture will provide Insurance with an immediate opportunity to begin the away-winning run their chairman believes could strengthen their title credentials.
