Under the guidance of Greg Ikhenoba, Bendel Insurance have undergone a notable transformation after a shaky start to the 2024/2025 NPFL season, which ultimately cost former coach Monday Odigie his job.
The Benin Arsenals rallied impressively in the second half of the campaign, climbing from the relegation zone to finish fifth with 56 points—just short of a continental qualification spot. Their late surge showcased resilience and tactical growth under Ikhenoba’s leadership.
However, preparations for the 2025/2026 season have been marked by significant changes. The club confirmed a mass exodus of 25 players from its roster, with stand-in captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi topping the list.
“Skipper Meyiwa, others leave as we step up preparation for the new season,” the club announced. Among those departing are Bernard Ovoke, Austin Ogunye, Stephen Sodje, Uche Collins, and Zaidu Ayuba.
Despite the departures, Bendel Insurance have yet to unveil any new signings. Nevertheless, the team boosted its morale by winning the Bayelsa Pre-Season Football Tournament in Yenagoa, defeating strong NPFL opposition.
With improvements in infrastructure and player welfare, coupled with their renewed competitive spirit, the Benin Arsenals appear well-positioned to push for a top finish and possibly secure continental qualification in the coming campaign.
Chances: 6/10
