Bendel Insurance FC reignited their campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Kun Khalifat in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 30 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Coming into the fixture on the back of a defeat to Rivers United, the Benin Arsenals showed urgency and determination from the opening whistle, rewarding their home supporters with an early breakthrough.
Insurance wasted little time asserting control. In the fifth minute, a costly error from Kun Khalifat goalkeeper Ejiogu Chijioke proved decisive. The shot-stopper spilled what appeared to be a routine effort, allowing Emmanuel Akpan to pounce quickly and slot home the opener.
The early goal lifted the tempo of the hosts, who dominated possession and pushed forward with confidence, forcing the visitors to remain largely on the defensive during the opening half.
Their attacking intent yielded further reward in the 41st minute. Emmanuel Dung orchestrated a smooth attacking move before setting up Kayode Oke, who calmly finished to double Bendel Insurance’s advantage just before the halftime whistle.
Kun Khalifat emerged for the second half with renewed purpose and managed to claw their way back into the contest. In the 52nd minute, Lekan Gabriel capitalised on an opportunity to reduce the deficit and inject fresh tension into the game.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Bendel Insurance remained disciplined at the back, managing the game effectively to secure all three points.
The victory lifts Bendel Insurance to 44 points from 30 matches, strengthening their bid for a respectable top-half finish as the NPFL season enters its decisive stretch.
For Kun Khalifat, the defeat keeps them trapped in the relegation zone in 18th place with 32 points, leaving the side with a challenging battle for survival in the remaining fixtures of the campaign.
