Bendel Insurance FC has appointed two-time NPFL title winner Kennedy Boboye as head coach and unveiled new kits.
Bendel Insurance Football Club has officially unveiled Coach Kennedy Boboye as its new head coach, along with the club’s new kits, marking a new era for the Benin Arsenals as they aim to reclaim their place among Nigeria’s football elite.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre in Benin City, with top officials of the Edo State Sports Commission, club executives, supporters, and key football stakeholders—including Edo FA Chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee—in attendance.
Speaking during the event, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, described Boboye’s appointment as a strategic step toward restoring the club’s competitive strength in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“This is not just about hiring a coach—it’s about rebuilding this great club into a consistent contender,” Enabulele said. “Bendel Insurance is a club with history, ambition, and passionate fans. We must match that with results.”
Enabulele explained that the decision to change the technical leadership was taken after a series of disappointing performances that left the club in the lower half of the NPFL standings. He expressed full confidence in Boboye’s credentials, describing him as a “proven winner” who brings experience and a track record of success, having won league titles with Plateau United (2017) and Akwa United (2021).
Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, Chairman of Bendel Insurance, urged the players to embrace unity and discipline under their new coach, emphasizing that the management remains committed to providing a supportive environment for success.
“The coach will instill tactical discipline and a winning mentality. If the players stay focused, success will follow,” Tenebe noted.
Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission, Efe Amenze, described the unveiling as a “historic and symbolic moment” that reflects a renewed sense of purpose and professionalism within the club. Representatives of the supporters’ group also pledged their full backing for Boboye, expressing optimism about a strong comeback in the ongoing NPFL season.
The ceremony featured highlights of Boboye’s playing and coaching career, the presentation of club-branded merchandise, and warm applause from fans and guests.
A former Super Eagles striker, Boboye enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Sharks FC, Udoji United, and European clubs SV Sterling and KFC Uerdingen before turning to coaching. His managerial journey has seen him lead Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, Remo Stars, Heartland FC, and others.
Boboye is expected to assume full duties immediately as Bendel Insurance prepares for their Matchday 9 fixture against Rivers United in Benin. With renewed confidence from management, players, and supporters, the Benin Arsenals are targeting a resurgence and a return to continental football in the 2025 season.
