Bellingham Says Bayern Clash Will Define Real Madrid’s Season

Posted : 14 April 2026

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has described Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Bayern Munich as a decisive moment in the club’s season. With domestic struggles mounting, he believes the European tie now represents their most important opportunity to avoid another trophyless campaign.

Bayern hold a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Madrid, meaning Real must overturn the deficit in Munich to reach the semifinals. Bellingham stressed that, given their position in LaLiga and cup exits earlier in the season, the clash effectively amounts to a final for his side.

The England international said the team understands the stakes, noting that failure to progress would feel like a major setback. He added that Real Madrid must treat the match as “all or nothing,” emphasizing the need to focus fully on the Champions League run.

Real currently sit nine points behind rivals FC Barcelona in LaLiga and have already lost the Spanish Super Cup final as well as exiting the Copa del Rey. Bellingham admitted those results have left little room for error in Europe.

He also spoke about Bayern striker Harry Kane, praising his quality while insisting Real must find a way to limit his influence in the tie. The midfielder said Kane’s form makes him one of the key threats in the contest.

Bellingham, who impressed after returning from injury in the first leg, reflected on a challenging season personally but said he now feels physically and mentally stronger. He also dismissed rumours about his off-field lifestyle, insisting he remains fully focused and professional.

Meanwhile, Real coach Álvaro Arbeloa backed his team’s chances, pointing to the club’s rich Champions League history. He said Real Madrid’s identity and winning mentality would be crucial as they look to overturn the deficit in Munich.
