Beckham Hails Messi as Argentina Legend Ends International Career

David Beckham has paid tribute to Lionel Messi following the Argentine superstar’s decision to retire from international football, saying his legacy “will live forever.”

Messi, 39, ended his Argentina career after 207 appearances and 125 goals, having led the country to the 2022 World Cup title and the 2026 World Cup final. His final international appearance came in Argentina’s 1-0 defeat by Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

Beckham, who has followed Messi’s career both as a former opponent and as co-owner of Inter Miami, praised the forward’s influence on Argentina and football fans around the world.

In a tribute posted on Instagram, the former England captain described Messi as an inspiration to millions and celebrated the achievements of a player he believes has left an everlasting mark on the game.

Messi’s international career began in 2005 and included the 2021 and 2024 Copa América titles, the 2022 World Cup and a runners-up finish at the 2026 tournament. He leaves Argentina as the country’s record goalscorer and one of the most decorated players in international football.
