Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala cherishes both Germany and Nigeria

Posted : 02 May 2024

Jamal Musiala, the midfielder for Germany and Bayern Munich, has openly expressed his affection for both his parents' nations, Nigeria and Germany, respectfully declining to favor one over the other.

Born in Germany to a British-Nigerian father and a German mother with Polish heritage, the versatile 21-year-old attacker possesses remarkable dribbling skills despite his stature, earning recognition as one of football's brightest talents.

Having the eligibility to represent Germany, Nigeria, Britain, and Poland due to his diverse heritage, Musiala ultimately chose to play for Die Mannschaft, following where he felt most comfortable.

When questioned about his decision in an interview, Musiala cited comfort as the determining factor, explaining, "I decided to go with Germany because it felt like the right fit for me."

In a recent interview with Serge Ibaka, Musiala declined to choose between Nigeria and Germany, expressing respect and love for both countries, emphasizing his fondness for Nigerian cuisine, particularly Fufu, a sentiment echoed by fellow Nigerian-German footballer Karim Adeyemi.

Born in Germany to a Nigerian father and a German mother, Musiala relocated to England at the age of seven, where he represented England at youth level before opting to play for Germany in 2021.

Having honed his skills in the Chelsea and Southampton youth academies, Musiala joined Bayern Munich in 2019, where he has showcased his talent, contributing 12 goals and eight assists in 37 appearances this season.
