Bayern Munich Faces Tough Task Against Inter Milan in Champions League Quarterfinals

Posted : 15 April 2025

Bayern Munich faces a daunting task as they travel to Inter Milan on Wednesday, needing a win to reach the Champions League semifinals and keep their hopes of playing a home final alive. Inter Milan's 2-1 victory in the first leg at Munich gives them a strong advantage, putting them in a favorable position to advance for the second time in three years.

Despite Bayern creating several chances, they failed to capitalize, a recurring theme for the German giants, particularly for star striker Harry Kane.

Bayern's injury woes are significant, with key players like goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Hiroki Ito, wing-back Alphonso Davies, and midfielder Jamal Musiala all missing for the trip to Milan.

The defense is further weakened by an ongoing Achilles issue for central defender Kim Min-jae, though he is expected to play. Given the defensive struggles, the team must improve their finishing, as they have scored just three goals from 46 shots on goal in their last two matches.

Kane, who has been prolific in the competition with 10 goals this season, acknowledged Bayern's missed opportunities in the first leg against Inter, emphasizing the need to be more clinical in front of goal. He believes that on another day, Bayern could have scored three or four times against Inter, and he remains confident that they can create chances again.

The England captain is determined to be in the right place at the right time to convert those opportunities in the crucial second leg.

Despite the challenges, Bayern are not facing an impossible task. Joshua Kimmich stressed that the team doesn’t need a miracle, but rather a more efficient performance to turn the game in their favor. To advance, Bayern must secure a two-goal win or a victory by one goal followed by a penalty shootout win.

Inter Milan, however, has been a tough side to break down, conceding only three goals in their last 11 Champions League games, and manager Simone Inzaghi has called for his team to replicate their first-leg performance with pace and aggression.
