Bayern Munich Close in on Bundesliga Glory After Champions League Triumph

Posted : 17 April 2026

Bayern Munich are on the brink of securing another Bundesliga crown and could seal the title as early as Sunday when they face VfB Stuttgart at home. Their dominant season, combined with a recent Champions League victory over Real Madrid, has placed them in a commanding position domestically.

With a 12-point lead and only five matches remaining, Bayern’s 35th league title is effectively within reach. A victory over Stuttgart would confirm their status as champions regardless of other results, while a draw could still be enough depending on how Borussia Dortmund perform against TSG Hoffenheim.

Head coach Vincent Kompany may consider rotating his squad, especially with a German Cup semifinal against Bayer Leverkusen approaching later in the week. Despite their league dominance, Bayern have not reached the DFB-Pokal final since 2020, a rare gap in their modern success.

Stuttgart, however, arrive in strong form, losing only twice in their last 16 league matches and climbing into the top three. Their improvement suggests Sunday’s fixture may be more competitive than the table indicates.

The two clubs could also meet again in the German Cup final if results go their way, adding further intrigue to an already busy rivalry-filled season that includes their Supercup meeting earlier in the campaign.

Stuttgart forward Jamie Leweling has insisted his side must approach the match with courage but discipline, warning that Bayern punish any defensive mistakes at the highest level.

On loan from Tottenham Hotspur, teenage defender Luka Vuskovic has emerged as a standout performer for Hamburger SV this season. Despite his age, he has become a key defensive figure in their fight for survival in the Bundesliga.

Hamburg face Werder Bremen in a crucial fixture, with victory likely securing their top-flight status. Vuskovic is recovering from a knee issue, but the coaching staff may still take a risk on his availability given the importance of the match.

Coach Merlin Polzin has suggested optimism over the defender’s involvement, highlighting his importance to the team’s defensive stability.
