The Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup Pre-season Tournament continued to produce exciting young prospects as participating teams displayed quality performances in the club's search for players ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
The competition, organised to identify home-grown talents capable of strengthening Bayelsa United's squad in their bid to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has attracted 12 teams, including several standout performers from the 2026 Prosperity Cup.
Players from champions Okoroma United are not participating in the tournament, as they are currently undergoing trials with clubs outside Bayelsa State.
Bayelsa Starlets Academy emerged as one of the biggest winners of the round after cruising to a 4-1 victory over AJ Inter Soccer Academy.
Silas Benjamin and Udake Joel were on target, while Nathaniel Ojigbere scored twice to seal an emphatic win for the Starlets.
Former Prosperity Cup champions Krosaders FC of Peretorugbene were forced to settle for a goalless draw against a resilient Brazil FC side.
Ereme Jackson of Port Harcourt also impressed, defeating NDU Oilers FC 3-1 to continue their encouraging run in the competition.
In the day's final fixture, Bayelsa United Feeders claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Grassroots FC to boost their chances of progressing.
Action resumes on Saturday with Match Day Three at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Mountain of the Lord Deliverance Ministry (MLDM FC) will face Grassroots FC in the opening fixture at 11:00 a.m., while Bayelsa Starlets Academy take on Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM FC) at 12:30 p.m.
Later, Prosperity Cup finalists Akinima Biogbo will square off against Ereme Jackson at 2:00 p.m., before the Federal University of Otuoke (FUO Kings FC) meet Brazil FC in the day's final match at 3:30 p.m.
The tournament remains a key platform for Bayelsa United's technical crew to assess emerging talents as the club intensifies preparations for the new season and its push for an immediate return to the NPFL.
