2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 10 Preview: Under-Fire Bayelsa United Take Survival Battle to Ozoro Against Warri Wolves

Posted : 25 October 2025
Struggling Bayelsa United face a crucial NPFL Matchday 10 showdown against a motivated Warri Wolves side in Ozoro.

Under-fire Bayelsa United FC will take their survival battle to Ozoro as they face South-South rivals and newly promoted Warri Wolves FC in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 fixture.

The Prosperity Boys head into the clash with mounting pressure to deliver results after a disappointing start to the campaign. Their challenge has been compounded by the momentum and renewed motivation in the Warri Wolves camp, following a generous gesture from the Delta State Government.

Earlier in the week, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori presented two brand-new vehicles—a Toyota Coaster and a Toyota Hiace bus—to Warri Wolves to ease the team’s travel and logistics challenges. The governor stated that the donation aimed to motivate the players for better performances in both domestic and international competitions.

“Delta State is doing very well in sports across Nigeria, but we must continue to motivate,” Governor Oborevwori said while handing over the buses. He emphasized that the support aligns with his administration’s commitment to sports development and ensuring athletes’ welfare both on and off the pitch.

In contrast, Bayelsa United have been thrown into turmoil following a two-game ultimatum issued by the club’s management to both players and coaches after a series of uninspiring performances.

Club chairman Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe delivered the ultimatum during an emergency meeting in Yenagoa, warning that continued underperformance would no longer be tolerated.

“The Bayelsa State Government has invested heavily in this club, and so far, the results have been far from impressive. We cannot continue like this — the investment must reflect on the pitch starting this weekend,” Nwankwe stated.

He added that the decision was not intended as a witch-hunt but as a necessary step to realign the team with the club’s vision of becoming one of Nigeria’s foremost football sides.

Bayelsa United have managed just one win in their last seven NPFL games, and the ultimatum officially begins with this weekend’s match against Warri Wolves, followed by a home fixture against Plateau United on October 31.

The Seasiders, however, will be looking to capitalize on their home advantage and newfound motivation to claim another victory in what promises to be a fiery South-South showdown.

Head-to-Head Record (Last 2 Meetings):

  • 01/11/2015: Warri Wolves 4–0 Bayelsa United
  • 05/07/2015: Bayelsa United 2–0 Warri Wolves

Both sides have shared mixed results in previous meetings, but with stakes high and pressure mounting, Matchday 10 could define the immediate futures of both teams in this NPFL campaign.
