The Bayelsa State Government has constituted a five-member interim management committee for Bayelsa United, with seasoned sports administrator Peter Singabele appointed as chairman to oversee the club's resurgence.
The committee, inaugurated by Governor Douye Diri, includes Braveman Wodi, Godson Ekarde, and Ono K. Akpe, while Ken Akpolaemi Odogu will serve as secretary.
The development follows the dissolution of the club's previous board after Bayelsa United suffered relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The appointment was announced by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, during the weekly Prosperity Walk on Thursday.
According to Akpe, the newly constituted committee has been given a six-month mandate to reposition the club and secure an immediate return to the NPFL.
"The task is to bring Bayelsa United out of relegation back into the Premiership level, which is the rightful position of the club. Peter Singabele, Braveman Wodi, Godson Ekarde, Ono Akpe and Ken Akpolaemi Odogu have been entrusted with this six-month assignment," he said.
The Deputy Governor also called on football stakeholders and supporters across the state to rally behind the interim committee, expressing confidence that collective support would be crucial in achieving the club's promotion back to Nigeria's top-flight league.
The establishing of this interim management structure emphasizes the state government's urgent commitment to reviving the football club's competitive prospects. By combining seasoned administrators with a definitive operational deadline, the state leadership aims to streamline the team's administrative functions. Stakeholders and local supporters remain essential pillars as the newly appointed executives begin implementing immediate reforms for the promotion campaign.
