Bayelsa United Chairman Nwankwe Remains Confident of Avoiding Relegation Despite League Standing

Posted : 23 April 2026

Bayelsa United Chairman Tarilaya Nwankwe has dismissed concerns regarding the club’s potential relegation to the Nigeria National League. The club official expressed absolute certainty that the Prosperity Boys will retain their top-flight status for the upcoming season. He insists that the team is ready to fight for every available point in the final stretch of the campaign.

The Yenagoa-based side currently finds themselves in a precarious position on the Nigeria Premier Football League table. They sit in 19th place with a total of 40 points after a challenging season. This ranking places them firmly within the drop zone where four teams are scheduled for relegation.

Nwankwe spoke directly to local media outlets regarding the team's survival prospects as the season reaches its climax. He stated that the club would not go down regardless of their current statistical disadvantage. The chairman refused to predict specific match outcomes but assured supporters that top-flight football remains the priority.

The road to safety involves three massive fixtures against some of the league's most difficult opponents. Bayelsa United must face title contenders Rangers and Remo Stars in their final run of games. They will also compete against Kwara United to determine their final league standing for the 2025/2026 season.

Statistical analysis of the current standings shows a very tight battle at the bottom of the NPFL log. Several teams are separated by only a few points, making every goal crucial for survival. Bayelsa United will need to improve their defensive record to stand a chance against the high-scoring teams remaining on their schedule.

The Prosperity Boys have struggled for consistency throughout the year, leading to their current 19th-place ranking. However, the management believes that recent tactical adjustments will pay dividends in the upcoming matches. Fans are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the team during these final must-win encounters.
