Bayelsa United Begin Promotion Quest with Pre-Season Training in Yenagoa

Bayelsa United have kicked off preparations for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season with the first phase of their pre-season programme at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

The opening training session was supervised by the club's technical crew, led by assistant coach Ngozi Elechi and Anderson West, as the team began its quest for an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Players were taken through light fitness exercises and tactical drills, allowing the coaching crew to assess their physical condition ahead of a more demanding pre-season schedule.

The club expects additional players to report to camp in the coming days as preparations intensify for the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup Pre-season Tournament in Yenagoa.

The tournament forms part of the club's build-up to the new campaign and aligns with the vision of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to see the Prosperity Boys regain their place in the NPFL at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Addressing the players before the commencement of training, board member Godson Ekarde challenged them to approach the new campaign with commitment, discipline, and a winning mentality.

He described the coming season as a defining period for the club, stressing that the management would provide the necessary support to ensure the team competes effectively in the NNL.

Ekarde also urged the players and technical crew to repay the confidence placed in them by producing improved performances and consistent results capable of securing promotion back to the top flight.

The pre-season programme is expected to provide the technical crew with an opportunity to evaluate the squad, integrate new arrivals, and fine-tune tactics before the start of the new NNL campaign. Bayelsa United will be aiming to build momentum in the coming weeks as they pursue an immediate return to Nigeria's top-flight league.
