Bayelsa United Aim to Rebound Against El-Kanemi Warriors

Bayelsa United FC will be eager to arrest their recent slump when they welcome relegation-threatened El-Kanemi Warriors FC in a pivotal 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 19 fixture.

The Prosperity Boys head into the game following an inconsistent run, recording just one win in their last five league matches. A 2–0 defeat away to Kwara United on Matchday 18 further compounded their struggles, leaving the Yenagoa-based side in 13th place on the NPFL table with 23 points.

Despite the dip in form, Bayelsa United Technical Adviser Meremu Okara remains confident that his team can still climb to a respectable position before the end of the campaign. The former national team defender highlighted the league’s competitiveness and noted that a few positive results could significantly improve their standing.

“The league is very open. Our position on the log isn’t that bad; if we win two or three matches, we move up,” Okara said. “The league is still open, but we will keep fighting and hope for the best.”

El-Kanemi Warriors, meanwhile, arrive in Yenagoa with everything to play for as they battle to avoid relegation. The Maiduguri-based side currently sit just one place above the drop zone, holding a slender one-point advantage over 17th-placed Barau FC. With the threat of relegation looming, every point in this fixture could prove decisive.

Matchday 19 therefore represents a defining moment for both clubs: Bayelsa United aiming for stability and a climb up the table, and El-Kanemi Warriors fighting for survival. All eyes will be on Yenagoa as the two sides lock horns in what promises to be a tense and pivotal NPFL showdown.
