Bayelsa United Accuses Coach Ladan Bosso of Contract Breach, Demands ₦30 Million Compensation

Posted : 02 August 2025

The management of Bayelsa United Football Club has reported the abscondment of Coach Ladan Bosso from his duties as the Technical Adviser of the team to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The club’s management described Bosso’s action as a show of arrogance and disrespect to Bayelsa State and its people.

In a petition to the NFF, Bayelsa United FC is demanding ₦30 million in compensation for the breach of a subsisting contract.

Bosso, 57, who was hired last year as Technical Adviser, helped the team survive relegation and guided them to a 10th-place finish in the 2024/2025 NFFL season.

Reports indicate that Bosso, who is also the President of the Nigeria Coaches Association and a former head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, was lured by newly promoted Barau FC of Kano with a promise to double his salary.

Barau FC has since announced and unveiled Bosso as the team’s Technical Adviser for the new football season.

The announcement came as a shock to Bayelsa United’s management and fans, who believed Bosso was merely on holiday.

Although the exact terms of his contract with Bayelsa United are undisclosed, it has been confirmed that he has abandoned all ongoing pre-season preparations and joined Barau FC.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who is aware of the development, also commented on the matter during a recent State Executive Council meeting while hosting the victorious Bayelsa Queens team.

The governor described the incident as a “huge distraction” and an example of unprofessional behavior, adding that such conduct could only occur in Nigeria.

Governor Diri reportedly advised the club’s management to formally report Bosso’s conduct to the NFF before proceeding to recruit a new coach.

In the petition filed with the Secretary General of the NFF, Bayelsa United’s chairman, Nwakwe Tarilaye, criticized Bosso’s action as a “brazen show of disrespect and arrogance” toward the government and people of Bayelsa State.

According to the letter titled "Notification of Abscondment from Duty by Ladan Bosso",

“Ladan Bosso has absconded from duty without any form of communication. It is now public knowledge that he has signed a new deal with newly promoted Barau FC of Kano despite having a subsisting contract with us.

“His conduct, especially as President of the Coaches Association, is a brazen manifestation of arrogance and disrespect. His action is not only embarrassing but has also disrupted our preparations for the 2025/2026 NFFL season.

“Mr. Bosso has violated the terms of his contract with the club. Consequently, we demand that he pays ₦30 million in damages for breach of contract to serve as a deterrent to other coaches,” the petition read in part.
