Bayelsa Queens have booked their place in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League final after coming from behind to defeat Burkina Faso’s USFA 2-1 in Yamoussoukro.
The Nigerian champions, aiming for a return to the CAF Women’s Champions League, recovered quickly after conceding in the opening two minutes. USFA, who had only one group-stage win, took the lead through Comfort Yeboah after Bayelsa Queens failed to clear their defensive lines.
Former Edo Queens forward Emem Essien leveled the score in the 15th minute with a composed finish following sustained pressure from the Nigerians. Midfielder Janet Akekoromowei then produced a stunning long-range strike in the 63rd minute to secure victory. Akekoromowei’s decisive goal earned her the Player of the Match award and is being tipped as a contender for the Goal of the Tournament.
Despite a late push from USFA, Bayelsa Queens held firm at the back to protect their advantage and ensure progression to the final. They will face Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas, who defeated Ghana’s Police Ladies 4-1 in the other semi-final.
Victory in the final will guarantee Bayelsa Queens a place in the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.
