Bayelsa Queens edge Pacesetters Queens in Ibadan to strengthen Super Six push

Bayelsa Queens secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Pacesetters Queens in their Match Day 13 clash of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, played at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Despite a spirited display from the Ibadan-based side, Pacesetters Queens were left to rue missed opportunities, having struck the woodwork twice and failed to convert several goal-scoring chances, particularly in the second half.

Their profligacy ultimately proved costly against a disciplined Bayelsa Queens side.

The decisive moment came late in the contest when Glory Edet found the back of the net in the 80th minute, sealing all three points for the Prosperity Girls.

The win lifts Bayelsa Queens to second position in Group A with 28 points, further boosting their chances of qualifying for the NWFL Super Six.

Bayelsa Queens’ defensive resilience and goalkeeping prowess played a crucial role, as they successfully contained the attacking threats posed by the hosts.

For Pacesetters Queens, the defeat represents another setback in their fight to retain their NWFL Premiership status.

The victory marks Bayelsa Queens’ ninth win in their last eleven league matches, underlining their strong form as the season approaches its decisive phase.

Speaking after the match, Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, praised his team’s determination:

“The magic today was the determination of my girls. They did enough to deserve the win because it was not an easy task.”

He added: “I must commend their fighting spirit, resilience, and determination. They played as a unit and showed great character.”

Bayelsa Queens will next host Ibom Angels at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on April 8, 2026, as they continue their push for a place in the Super Six.

This victory underscores the tactical discipline of the Yenagoa-based side as they navigate the pressure of the title race. While Pacesetters Queens showed promise, Bayelsa's clinical edge proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match. The Prosperity Girls now look forward to their next home fixture with significant momentum on their side.
