Bayelsa and Rivers Angels Secure Vital Wins in NWFL Matchday 17

Posted : 30 April 2026

Matchday 17 of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership delivered significant results across multiple venues on Wednesday. Defending champions Bayelsa Queens maintained their grip on the top of Group A with a professional 2-0 victory over Heartland Queens. Aminat Folorunsho opened the scoring in the 25th minute at the Samson Siasia Stadium. Sofiat Bankole then doubled the lead late in the second half to secure the three points. This win ensures the Yenagoa-based side stays ahead of their closest rivals as the season nears its conclusion.

Rivers Angels produced the most emphatic performance of the round by thrashing Ekiti Queens 4-0 in Port Harcourt. Abasiofon Uwah was the star of the show with two well-taken goals to lead the attack. Patience Otubo and Zainab Oduga also found the back of the net to complete the rout. The victory keeps Rivers Angels firmly in the race for the title and boosts their confidence ahead of the final matches.

In Group B, Nasarawa Amazons officially sealed their place in the Super Six playoffs with a gritty 2-1 comeback win. They faced Sunshine Queens at the Lafia City Stadium and fell behind early to a 10th-minute strike from Chigozie Idika. However, Bibiana Odoh inspired the turnaround by equalizing just before the halftime whistle. Odoh struck again in the 51st minute to complete her brace and secure the victory. This result moves the Amazons to 32 points, trailing leaders FC Robo Queens by just two points.

Delta Queens also enjoyed a successful outing in Asaba with a 3-0 triumph over Remo Stars Ladies. Temitope Titilayo broke the deadlock in the 34th minute before Vweire Samson added a second before the break. Rita Tsebee sealed the win with a late goal to condemn Remo Stars to their fourth consecutive match without a victory. This result is a major blow to the playoff ambitions of the Remo side.

Elsewhere, Osun Babes secured a narrow 1-0 win against FC Robo Queens thanks to Nofisat Tijani’s first-half goal. Ahudiyannem Queens continued their good form with a 3-0 away victory at Confluence Queens. Mary Lucky was instrumental in that win by scoring twice. Meanwhile, Edo Queens were held to a 1-1 draw by Ibom Angels in Benin City. Adamawa Queens also recorded a 2-0 victory over Naija Ratels to move up the standings.
