The Bauchi State Government has announced the immediate dissolution of the management committee of Wikki Tourists Football Club. This decision follows the team’s failure to retain its top-flight status in the tier-one division. The club suffered a disappointing relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League to the lower Nigeria National League at the end of the competitive 2025/2026 football season.
Executive Governor Senator Bala Mohammed approved the drastic administrative sweeping changes after a thorough review of the team's overall seasonal performance. The state leadership expressed severe displeasure regarding the poor sporting output despite its significant financial contributions throughout the league campaign. The administrative intervention aims to restore fading public confidence, address deeper structural vulnerabilities, and lay a solid foundation for the club.
The government statement revealed that various emergency rescue strategies were implemented during the final stages of the football season to complement the management team. A specialized task force worked alongside the club executives to guide the squad toward league survival. Unfortunately, these administrative efforts did not yield the desired outcome.
To fill the leadership vacuum, the governor appointed Alhaji Haruna Bako as the Interim Sole Administrator. Bako is a highly experienced administrator who previously served as the Bauchi State Director of Sports. He has been directed to assume total responsibility for all daily club operations with immediate effect.
The interim administrator will oversee the formal handover of all operations, physical assets, official records, and outstanding liabilities. He will also initiate immediate restructuring plans to prepare the team for the upcoming 2026/2027 Nigeria National League season. The ultimate target remains an immediate promotion back to the elite division.
The government officially thanked the outgoing management committee, which was led by Salmanu Abubakar, for their dedicated service to the state. State authorities reiterated their long-term commitment to restoring the club's glorious status as one of northern Nigeria's premier football teams. Founded originally in 1992, Wikki Tourists will now begin an extensive rebuilding process to secure a swift return to the top tier.
