Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi ended their eight-match winless streak with a convincing 2–0 victory over Northern rivals Kano Pillars FC in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 22, played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
The home side, also known as the Bauchi Elephants, had an early opportunity to take the lead in the 25th minute when Naziru Auwalu Laja won a penalty. However, his spot-kick was expertly saved by the Pillars goalkeeper.
Wikki continued to press and were rewarded just before halftime. Mid-season signing Taheer Abubakar from Abia Warriors opened the scoring in the 44th minute, calmly slotting a low drive into the far corner after a precise assist from Naziru Auwalu Laja, giving the Bauchi Elephants a 1–0 lead at the break.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Klinshak Longbak finished clinically following a setup from Abubakar Aliyu, sending the ATB Stadium crowd into wild jubilation.
Speaking after the match, Wikki Tourists Head Coach Abdu Maikaba expressed his delight with the result, thanking God and calling for continued support, prayers, and understanding from fans and stakeholders as the team aims for consistency.
Kano Pillars Chairman Ali Nayara described the defeat as a test. “Kano Pillars tried their best, but it wasn’t enough. A game is a game, whether you win, lose, or draw,” he said. Nayara also urged NPFL referees to officiate fairly and calmly, citing concerns over a recent match between Kano Pillars and Abia Warriors, where officiating errors forced the National Premier League organizing committee to resign.
Nayara further called on fans attending the upcoming Kano Pillars vs. Katsina United match at the Sani Abacha Stadium to be good ambassadors, maintain law and order, and ensure the game is played safely and peacefully. “There is a need for Kano Pillars fans to return the favor. Doing so will strengthen the friendship between the two clubs,” he added.
The victory sees Wikki Tourists climb from 18th to 14th on the NPFL table. Attention now turns to a midweek clash as the Bauchi Elephants travel to Umuahia to face Abia Warriors.
