Basira FC Make History with Opening-Day Win and First BetPawa Locker Room Bonus

Basira FC began their 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign in style with a 3–1 victory over Mighty Jets of Jos in the season-opening fixture played at the Lafia Stadium.

Team captain Jubrin Kaura was all smiles at full-time — perhaps unaware of the significance of the history he and his teammates had just created.

Forward Abubakar Yusuf opened the scoring in the 6th minute, not only giving his team the lead but also netting the first goal of the 2025/2026 NNL season. He added another in the 39th minute to complete his brace before Peter Eneji sealed the win with a third goal just after the restart in the 46th minute. Mighty Jets grabbed a consolation goal later in the game.

The victory not only gave Basira FC three points but also made them the first beneficiaries of the BetPawa/NNL Locker Room Bonus Award. The reward scheme — introduced by the league body led by George Aluo in partnership with sponsor BetPawa — credits the mobile accounts of 20 players and three technical staff with ₦56,000 each immediately after every match won.

Expressing his excitement, captain Kaura, whose wife welcomed a baby girl in late October, praised the initiative and the league’s transparency.

“I have just received my winning bonus from the league sponsor, BetPawa. I’m very happy and grateful,” Kaura said.

“Before now, our club owner used to handle bonuses, but with this BetPawa Locker Room Bonus, it eases that burden. My teammates and I really appreciate it.”

NNL Chairman George Aluo, who watched the match alongside Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, the NFF Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi, and other dignitaries, lauded the successful kickoff and the prompt activation of the bonus system.

“What we witnessed in this season’s opening match between Basira FC and Mighty Jets, and the immediate payment of the BetPawa Locker Room Bonus, are very satisfying,” Aluo said.

“The payments are real and instant. It’s a great motivation for teams to perform better and uphold fair play. We appreciate BetPawa for this partnership and look forward to more collaborations to elevate the NNL to a championship of class.”

Matchday 1 fixtures will continue on November 16 across the two league conferences.
