Barcelona Thrash Real Betis 5-2 as Lamine Yamal Shines in La Liga Thriller

Posted : 18 October 2026

Barcelona strengthened their grip on the La Liga title race with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Real Betis at the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric García and Dani Olmo scored as Hansi Flick's side delivered an impressive attacking display to extend their winning run to 11 matches in all competitions.

Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. The teenage forward created space with a clever piece of skill before firing past Real Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles, giving Barcelona an early advantage.

The hosts responded in the 27th minute when Pablo Fornals delivered a cross that Valentín Gómez headed into the net. Barcelona restored their lead shortly before half-time, with Rodri converting a Fermín López corner in the 41st minute. It was Rodri's first goal for Barcelona since joining the club from Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

Barcelona increased their advantage shortly after the restart. Gabriel Jesus finished a flowing attacking move in the 51st minute after Yamal supplied the final pass, leaving the forward with a simple finish into an unguarded net.

Real Betis responded immediately through Abde Ezzalzouli, who finished a rapid counter-attack in the 53rd minute to make it 3-2. However, the hosts' hopes of completing a comeback suffered a major setback when Facundo Bernal was sent off in the 54th minute following a confrontation with Yamal.

Barcelona continued their dominance after the dismissal, with Eric García scoring in the 62nd minute. Pau Cubarsí supplied the pass after Betis failed to clear a blocked free-kick, allowing García to finish from close range.

Substitute Dani Olmo completed the scoring in the 81st minute, finding the bottom corner with a composed strike from the edge of the penalty area. Cubarsí provided his second assist of the match, capping an impressive contribution from the young defender.

Yamal was named Player of the Match after another influential display. His goal and assist underlined his importance to Flick's attack, especially with the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony approaching.

The victory took Barcelona to 27 points from nine league matches, keeping them five points ahead of Atlético Madrid. Real Madrid remained nine points behind Barcelona with a game in hand, while Betis stayed third on 19 points.

Barcelona's result also strengthened their confidence ahead of a demanding week, with a Champions League meeting against Paris Saint-Germain followed by a clash with Real Madrid. Flick's side will aim to carry their attacking form into both fixtures as they pursue domestic and European success.
