Barcelona's Dramatic Comeback Secures 4-3 Win Over Celta Vigo

Posted : 19 April 2025

Barcelona staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 4-3 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday, moving seven points ahead of Real Madrid in the La Liga title race. Despite trailing 3-1 with less than 30 minutes left after a hat-trick from Borja Iglesias, Barcelona rallied with goals from Dani Olmo and two from Raphinha, including a dramatic 98th-minute penalty to seal the win.

The match started with Barcelona taking the lead early, as Ferran Torres scored in the 12th minute with a precise strike from the edge of the box. However, Celta Vigo quickly equalized when Iglesias capitalized on a defensive error, putting the ball into an empty net after a cross from Pablo Duran. Barcelona had chances to regain the lead, with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski both missing opportunities, while Celta continued to test goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Celta Vigo took control in the second half, with Iglesias completing his hat-trick. First, he capitalized on a mistake by Frenkie de Jong to give Celta the lead, and then, after a lapse in defense, he raced through to score again. Barcelona seemed out of sorts, but the introduction of Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo sparked a revival. Olmo scored to reduce the deficit, and Raphinha then leveled the match minutes later with a header from a Yamal cross.

The game reached its dramatic conclusion in the dying moments. A VAR review awarded Barcelona a penalty in the 96th minute for a foul on Olmo by Yoel Lago. With Lewandowski off the pitch, Raphinha stepped up and scored the crucial penalty, sending the home crowd into raptures and securing a vital three points for Barcelona in their quest for the title.
