Barcelona Face Valencia at Johan Cruyff Stadium Amid Camp Nou Dela

Posted : 12 September 2025

After three weeks of away fixtures, Barcelona will play their first home match of the LaLiga season on Sunday, but not at the fully renovated Spotify Camp Nou as planned.

The Catalan club will host Valencia at their 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff training ground stadium, aiming to maintain pace with league leaders Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona currently sit fourth, two points behind the top two, following a 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano before the international break.

The delay in returning to Camp Nou comes as the stadium is still being readied for full use, with a concert scheduled at the Olympic Stadium, which Barcelona has used for the past two seasons.

The club only confirmed the Johan Cruyff venue on Tuesday, giving Valencia 290 tickets for the match, which quickly sold out. President Joan Laporta expressed the club’s eagerness to return to Camp Nou, while Valencia midfielder Pepelu acknowledged the unusual circumstances but emphasized focusing on the game itself.

Manager Hansi Flick has urged his squad to keep their egos in check following last season’s domestic treble, citing the smaller venue as a reality check after a lackluster performance at Rayo Vallecano.

Teenage star Lamine Yamal stressed the importance of intensity and focus as the team seeks to build momentum this season. Barcelona’s previous encounter with Valencia at the Olympic Stadium ended in a 7-1 win, but Pepelu expects a tighter contest this time around.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid travel to Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao host Alaves on Saturday, while Atletico Madrid, winless so far, take on Villarreal with Julian Alvarez leading the attack in the absence of Antoine Griezmann.

Key statistics highlight that Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao are the only teams with perfect records, Real Madrid have kept five clean sheets in their last six away matches, and Barcelona’s squad has the youngest average age in the league.
