FC Barcelona head into their LaLiga trip to Getafe CF on Saturday aiming to maintain their lead at the top of the table after a major setback with the injury of teenage star Lamine Yamal. The Catalan side still hold a nine-point advantage over rivals Real Madrid, but the absence of key attackers has raised concerns over their title charge.
Coach Hansi Flick is now tasked with finding solutions after losing both Yamal and winger Raphinha to injury. The duo have played crucial roles in Barcelona’s attacking system, and their absence comes at a decisive stage of the season when Madrid are attempting to close the gap.
Barcelona’s lead remains significant, but the upcoming El Clásico on May 10 could prove decisive in the title race. Real Madrid, led by coach Álvaro Arbeloa, believe they can still mount a late challenge if results go their way in the coming weeks.
Flick’s side will aim to secure wins against Getafe and Osasuna to ensure they remain in control heading into the Clasico. The German coach acknowledged the setback, admitting Yamal’s injury is a blow, but stressed the importance of adapting during the final stretch of the campaign.
Yamal has been one of Barcelona’s standout performers this season, contributing 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 matches. The 18-year-old had been in exceptional form in LaLiga, scoring nine goals in his last 12 appearances before suffering a hamstring injury.
With injuries reshaping the squad, Barcelona may turn to fringe players such as Roony Bardghji and potentially Marcus Rashford to add width and attacking threat. Flick has also experimented with different tactical options, including deploying midfielder Gavi in wide positions.
Despite a narrow 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in midweek, Flick admitted his team must improve in confidence and decision-making. Meanwhile, Real Madrid can temporarily reduce the gap when they face Real Betis on Friday.
Elsewhere in LaLiga, Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi continues his pursuit of the top scorer chart, while defensive and disciplinary trends across the league highlight a tight and competitive run-in.
