Barcelona Survive Levante Fightback to Maintain Perfect La Liga Start

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the La Liga season with a hard-fought 4–2 victory over Levante on Sunday, although the defending champions were forced to withstand a spirited late comeback at the Ciutat de València.

Xavi Espart gave Barcelona an early advantage, scoring in the fifth minute with his first senior goal for the club. Lamine Yamal then doubled the lead in the 19th minute after being set up by Raphinha, putting Hansi Flick's side firmly in control.

Yamal struck again shortly after half-time, converting a penalty in the 48th minute to give Barcelona a three-goal cushion. The Spain international's brace continued his excellent start to the campaign and further underlined his growing influence in the champions' attack.

However, Barcelona's control began to disappear as Levante capitalised on defensive mistakes. Substitute Iván Romero pulled one back in the 79th minute before Roger Brugué scored nine minutes later, reducing the deficit to 3–2 and setting up a tense finish.

Barcelona eventually settled the contest in stoppage time when Karim Adeyemi produced an impressive individual run before firing past goalkeeper Matthew Ryan to restore the visitors' two-goal advantage.

The victory leaves Barcelona with 15 points from their opening five matches, three points ahead of Real Madrid at the summit. Despite the scare in Valencia, Flick's team remain the only side in La Liga with a 100 per cent record.

Barcelona will next face Racing Santander on Wednesday, while Levante will look to respond when they take on Athletic Bilbao.
