The Nigeria Premier Football League has ordered that Barau FC’s home fixture against Kano Pillars on Matchday 9 be played without fans.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has confirmed that the Matchday 9 encounter between Barau FC and Kano Pillars will be played behind closed doors at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
In a letter dated Tuesday, October 14, 2025, and signed by Davidson Owumi, the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, the league emphasized that the decision was made strictly for safety and security reasons, following incidents of crowd violence that occurred during Matchday 8.
The NPFL directive stated, “The Matchday 9 fixture between Barau FC and Kano Pillars shall be played behind closed doors in accordance with established safety and security protocols.”
Only a limited group of individuals—including referees’ council members, state football association officials, accredited media representatives, and security personnel—will be allowed access to the venue. The total number of attendees within the stadium is capped at 120 persons, with no fans, supporters, or unauthorized individuals permitted entry under any circumstances.
Additionally, the NPFL Secretariat announced plans to deploy two officials to oversee Barau FC’s subsequent home matches. Their role will be to conduct on-the-spot assessments and provide detailed reports on compliance, organization, and security measures.
Barau FC has accepted the league’s decision, despite earlier attempts to appeal for limited fan access. The game will kick off at 4:00 PM at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.
