2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 28 Review: Barau FC Sustain Winning Momentum

Posted : 03 March 2026

Barau FC staged a late comeback to defeat Plateau United 2-1 in their Matchday 28 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 4th minute through Vincent Temitope.

Barau FC levelled in the 38th minute when Henry Ezeonye reacted quickly to tap home after Sunday Antony’s free kick struck the woodwork.

The goal was Ezeonye’s first in the NPFL for the Maliya Boys, taking his tally to four league goals and one assist this season.

Stanley Oganbor, who came on as a substitute early in the second half, scored the decisive goal on his return from injury to hand the hosts maximum points.

The victory moved Barau FC to 10th position on the NPFL table with 37 points from 28 matches.

Barau FC Technical Adviser, Eugene Agagbe, described the encounter as tough but commended his players for their resilience.

“It was a difficult game, but the players showed character and determination to come back. I commend them for their efforts,” he said.

Agagbe expressed confidence ahead of the club’s next fixture against Kano Pillars, urging fans to turn out in large numbers for the anticipated Kano derby.

Also speaking, the Head Coach of Plateau United, Gbenga Ogunbote, commended his players for their impressive performance and resilience during the encounter.

The coach assured fans that the team would intensify preparations for their forthcoming clash against Niger Tornadoes F.C., expressing optimism about securing maximum points in the encounter.

Oganbor was named the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Man of the Match for his match-winning performance.
