2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 30: Barau FC Host Abia Warriors in High-Stakes Kano Battle

All eyes will be on the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday as Barau FC welcome Abia Warriors in a decisive Matchday 30 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

With the league campaign gradually approaching its climax, both sides head into the contest with plenty at stake. While the visitors are battling to maintain their push for continental qualification, the hosts are equally determined to strengthen their standing in the middle of the table.

Barau FC, fondly known as the Maliya Boys, currently sit 12th on the NPFL table with 37 points.

The Kano-based side will be eager to capitalize on home advantage as they aim to climb further up the standings and continue their steady adaptation to life in the top flight.

A major talking point ahead of the clash will be the presence of winger Uche Moses, a former Abia Warriors player who switched allegiance to Barau earlier this season.

His familiarity with his former teammates could prove crucial as the hosts attempt to halt the visitors’ ambitions.

However, Abia Warriors arrive in Kano with a clear objective. The Umuahia side occupy fourth position on the table with 46 points, just one point shy of the third-place spot, and remain firmly in contention for a continental ticket.

The Warriors will also take confidence from their earlier meeting this season. In the reverse fixture at the Umuahia Township Stadium, they secured a convincing 2–0 victory in front of their home supporters.

Despite that result, Sunday’s fixture presents a completely different challenge, with Barau FC expected to draw strength from their home crowd at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Statistically, the Warriors have maintained a slightly better defensive record this season, averaging 0.83 goals scored per game while conceding 0.69. In comparison, Barau FC average 0.79 goals scored and 0.9 goals conceded per match.

Abia Warriors will nonetheless have to navigate the encounter without several key players, as Maxwell Kangeshima, Fatai Abdullahi, Elu Wilson, Jibrin Faiz, and Ayodele Ezekiel remain sidelined through injuries. There is, however, a boost for the visitors with captain Augustine Njoku returning to the squad.

As the race for points intensifies in the closing phase of the campaign, Sunday’s clash promises a fiercely contested battle between a side chasing continental qualification and another eager to make a strong impression in their debut NPFL season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
