2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 18: Barau FC Holds Nasarawa United to Goalless Draw in Lafia

In a tightly contested encounter that left home fans yearning for more, Nasarawa United’s title ambitions fell short as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a resurgent Barau FC at Lafia City Stadium during a rescheduled Match Day 18 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier League (NPFL).

The Solid Miners, buoyed by a string of impressive recent results—including a historic point against Plateau United in Jos last week—entered the game confident of claiming victory. However, Barau FC, revitalized in recent weeks, proved a formidable challenge, frustrating every attacking move with a combination of grit, tactical discipline, and outstanding goalkeeping.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances through Anas Yusuf, Ekeson Okorie, John Joshua, Garba Mohammed, and Jofrank Istifanus, Nasarawa United struggled to convert their territorial advantage. Barau’s defensive resilience, led by Stanley Oganbor and Nana Abraham, ensured that the visiting side could not break the deadlock.

The result leaves Nasarawa United with 32 points from 18 games, slipping behind Rivers United, who now lead the table with 34 points.

A disappointed Coach Mangut Mbwas acknowledged the frustration of the result but emphasized that the season is far from over. He assured that the team would regroup, refocus, and prepare for their next away game against Kano Pillars on Sunday, 28th December 2025, as they continue their pursuit of NPFL glory.

Midfielder John Joshua, voted the fans’ Man of the Match for his standout performance, expressed gratitude for the team’s efforts but felt they deserved better. He stressed that the squad is determined to turn the tide in upcoming fixtures.
