2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 20 review: Barau FC Edge Niger Tornadoes 2–1 in Kano

Posted : 16 January 2026

Barau FC of Kano continued their resurgence in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over visiting Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna on Matchday 20, marking the first game of the league’s second stanza. Uche Moses and Umaru Mohammed scored for the Maliya Boys, while Chinton Japhet netted the lone goal for Niger Tornadoes.

Ahead of the second half of the season, Barau FC strengthened their squad with six new signings: Ebuka Nwokorie (Kun Khalifat), Moses Tsehuan – Centre Back (from Nasarawa United), Akpo Godwin (Attack Energy FC, Afghanistan), Ezeonye Henry, Uche Moses (Kun Khalifat FC), and Nwaodu Chukwudi (Enyimba FC). Each player signed a two-year deal and was unveiled by the club’s General Manager, Dominic Iorfa, alongside Vice President Kabiru Baita. The recruits were tasked to give their best on and off the pitch to drive the team’s success.

Reacting to the defeat, Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser Majin Mohammed urged his team to take the loss in stride and focus on upcoming fixtures. “The game has been won and lost,” Mohammed said. “We must analyse our mistakes, make corrections, and prepare for the next match against Nasarawa United at Lafia City Stadium this weekend.”

The victory highlights Barau FC’s growing momentum as they look to solidify their place in the NPFL standings, while Niger Tornadoes aim to regroup and bounce back in their next encounter.
