2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 10 Preview: Babaganaru on Rescue Mission as Kano Pillars Seek Redemption Against Niger Tornadoes

Posted : 25 October 2025
Caretaker coach Muhammad Babaganaru begins his rescue mission with Kano Pillars as they host Niger Tornadoes.

After a string of disappointing results that have left the Northern giants in a precarious position, the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 could offer Kano Pillars a fresh chance at redemption.

The Sai Masu Gida will host their northern rivals, Niger Tornadoes FC, at the Sani Abacha Stadium behind closed doors, as newly appointed caretaker coach Muhammad Babaganaru begins his rescue mission. The experienced tactician returns to the club with the task of reviving their season and steering them away from the relegation zone.

Kano Pillars’ management recently dismissed the entire technical crew led by Evan Ogenyi after a series of poor performances that saw the team sink to 20th on the NPFL table. With just two wins, two draws, and four losses in eight matches, the five-time league champions have endured one of their toughest starts in recent years.

Babaganaru, a seasoned coach with a history of success at the club, has already begun working with the players. He supervised his first training session at the Sani Abacha Stadium, focusing on tactics, fitness, and team morale ahead of the high-stakes fixture.

“Kano Pillars players are focused and ready under Technical Adviser Muhammad Babaganaru ahead of Saturday’s clash against Niger Tornadoes. We believe in the process,” the club posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

In a bid to motivate the team, the Kano State Government provided new incentives during the week, including three brand-new team buses and fresh sets of kits for the players. These gestures are part of broader efforts to boost morale and improve performance as the season intensifies.

Head-to-Head Record:
The rivalry between the two Northern clubs has been closely contested over the years.

  • Kano Pillars have won 6 matches.
  • Niger Tornadoes have won 7 matches.
  • 8 encounters have ended in draws.

Recent Meetings:

  • 25/05/2025: Niger Tornadoes 3–2 Kano Pillars
  • 21/12/2024: Kano Pillars 2–1 Niger Tornadoes
  • 08/06/2024: Kano Pillars 1–1 Niger Tornadoes
  • 21/12/2023: Niger Tornadoes 1–0 Kano Pillars
  • 30/04/2022: Niger Tornadoes 2–1 Kano Pillars

With history, pride, and much-needed points at stake, Babaganaru’s men will be eager to deliver a strong performance. A win on Saturday could mark the beginning of a turnaround for Kano Pillars, while Niger Tornadoes will be looking to continue their recent dominance in this northern derby.
