Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi recently underwent urgent surgery after a collision with the goalpost during Nottingham Forest’s Premier League game against Leicester City at the City Ground.
The Guardian UK reported that the procedure took place on Monday night, following scan results that revealed a significant abdominal injury.
The incident happened as Awoniyi attempted to meet a cross at full speed, sliding into the post with considerable force.
Although he managed to leave the pitch unassisted, subsequent medical assessments showed internal damage that required immediate surgical attention.
Thankfully, the striker’s condition has been described as stable, and he is not facing any life-threatening complications.
Still, there is no clear timeline yet for his return to action, as the extent of his recovery needs further evaluation.
Both Nottingham Forest and Awoniyi have yet to issue an official update regarding the surgery or his expected period on the sidelines.
