Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw by Alaves in a lackluster La Liga match on Saturday. With their Champions League qualification nearly secured and no real title contention, Diego Simeone's side had little to play for, while Alaves earned a crucial point in their fight against relegation, moving three points clear of the drop zone.
The match saw little action, with the only real incident occurring in the first half when Julian Alvarez was initially shown a red card for a high challenge on Facundo Garces. However, after a VAR review, the decision was downgraded to a yellow card, and the game continued with few sparks.
Simeone made changes in the second half, bringing on Samuel Lino and Alexander Sorloth to add energy to his side.
As the game progressed, Atletico's attacking efforts lacked precision. Antonio Sivera saved a long-range effort from Lino, and Jan Oblak denied Kike Garcia with a brilliant stop.
Despite late attempts from Clement Lenglet and Angel Correa, Atletico could not break the deadlock, and the match ended goalless, leaving both sides with a share of the spoils.
